When we set out to get our grocery shopping completed more than likely it will be more convenient to get everything that you need at one store rather than go to several different stores to get the needed items.  However if you are looking to save money there are many different items that you should avoid at the grocery store because their prices are marked up and overpriced.  Below are several different items that you should avoid putting into your cart when you are shopping at the grocery store.

Meat The Is Presliced Or Cubed

The price of meat is already expensive and will usually only have a shelf life or around five days before you need to throw it out.  But what many people do not realize is that the price for meat that is presliced or cubed is more than sixty percent higher than those meats that are not precut.  One way to save money on meat is to look for the warehouse or bulk stores to mark their large slabs of meat down.  This will give you the option of using the meat you need to right away and freezing the rest for a later date.

Name Brand Spices

Spices are another item that people will pick up while they are at the grocery store.  If you are a smart shopper you will not be lured into purchasing these at the grocery store and instead purchase them at a natural food store or even at a drugstore or a discount store.  The downside to purchasing your spices at a natural food store is that you may have to bring your own bottles.  However the amount of money that you will end up saving will make up for this.

Baked Goods

When you purchase goods that have already been baked you are going to pay a higher price because you are paying for convenience.  The good news is that if you really want to save money you can make the items yourself such as baking a cake or even baking your own bread at home.  If you want to save even more money you can ask the managers of the stores when the bread gets marked down.  You can then purchase extra and freeze it until you need it.

Brand Name Cereal

Cereal is one of the most expensive items that can be purchased at the grocery store.  This is because the makers of the brand name cereals are often finding ways to promote their items, which lead to high markups.  The good news is that when you compare the ingredients of a name brand cereal to the ingredients of the generic cereals you will find that they are the same and you will not notice a different in taste.  You might be surprised to learn that the same creators of the big name items usually make the generic brands.

Batteries

If you are at the grocery store and remember that you need batteries you would be silly to grab them while you are there.  Batteries are usually marked up by at least sixty percent and often even more.  You would be better off waiting until you are at Target or Walmart and getting them there.  If you are looking to save even more money on batteries you should purchase them at a warehouse store such as Costco or Sams.

There are many other ways to save when shopping at the grocery store.  The above items are only a few examples.  A good rule to remember is that if it is convenient it is probably overpriced and you can find it elsewhere for less.
