When the holidays roll around many start to feel like they get out of control.  No one wants to break their budget purchasing gifts for their family and friends and sooner or later you will no longer be looking forward to the holidays because you will end up forgetting what it is all about.  Therefore a great idea to spread around is the no spend holiday season.  Here are a few ideas that will keep you more focused on spending time with family and friends and not worrying about how much you are spending.

Get Creative And Crafty

When it comes to the holidays you will find that it is the best time to turn on your creative juices.  There are many different crafts that you can make while sitting and visiting with friends and your family.  For example stringing popcorn for you to use on your Christmas tree or even putting out for the neighborhood birds.  But there are also other ideas such as making your own Christmas cards or a gingerbread house that you can give away as a gift. If you want to involve your children they can help you.

Play Outside

It might be cold outside but the cold weather can do great things for a person’s attitude.  You should bundle up for warmth and go enjoy a snowball fight or even get wet by making a snow angel.  If that is not something that you are interested in you could hit the town and go window-shopping.  Once you are finished you can stop at your local coffee shop or sit in your kitchen and sip hot chocolate.

Play Inside

If being outside in the cold temperature does not sound like something that you would enjoy you can keep the fun inside by pulling out the board games, play charades or even a game of bingo.  Your family and friends will enjoy the time you have planned for them and many times the competitiveness of the games will turn into an all day adventure.

Holiday Movies

A popular activity that many people enjoy is watching holiday movies together.  The list of popular holiday movies grows every year.  You do not need to purchase these movies.  You can borrow them from other friends or even from the library but they are also on television so you can check the guide for the times and plan around that.  Once you have the movies you can pop some popcorn, make some cider and enjoy the time together.

Volunteer Your Time

Sometimes the meaning of the holidays gets lost in the hustle and bustle.  A great way to remember what the holidays are about is to volunteer your time and your talents to a charity.  Many of us do not realize how good we have it until we see exactly what is happening around us.  It is then that we remember what we have to be thankful for.

Donate Your Time To Others

We all have a little bit of extra time that we can donate to someone who might be in need of some help.  Instead of purchasing a gift a great idea is to help someone.  For example you could shovel the driveway of an elderly neighbor, you can take the kids from your sister or neighbor for the day and let mom have some down time to finish her holiday shopping or simply take a nap.  There are many different things that you can do to help someone and they do not have to cost you anything.

As you can see from above you do not need to spend a lot of money and a lot of time running around to make the holiday season special.  There are many different ways you can do this without breaking the bank.
